Congratulations! You are a 5th grader! Because you are getting older you are going to get to do many things that you haven't gotten to do before in school. With privilege comes responsibility. This year I expect you to:
- Be prepared!
- Be respectful!
- Be responsible!
- Be your best you!
I am looking forward to having an adventure in learning with you this year! Please look through the class rules, procedures and policies and make sure you understand them. If you understand what is expected of you, we can make a great team!
Classroom RulesWe always come to class prepared.

Classroom ProceduresDistributing and Collecting Materials:
Students will be assigned tasks involving distributing and collecting materials in class. For example, someone might oversee passing out papers or materials, while another may be in charge of making sure that the pencil bucket is full of sharpened pencils and that each desk has a pencil in the morning. Distributing and Collecting Graded Work:
Work that needs to be graded will be turned into designated baskets after the assignment is completed. Graded work will be returned to students ONLY by the teacher. Depending on the assignment the teacher way call individuals up to collect their work or work will be placed in students’ daily binders to go home. Group Activities:
When students are told to go to their groups they will do so by walking purposefully to their group mates, finding a location, and sitting down. Sitting down will signal that the group is ready to begin. When group time is over, students will be sure to clean up any mess they made and make their way purposefully back to their seats. Leaving the Room as a Class:
When leaving the classroom, students will wait to be called to line up. Once in line students are expected to always be respectful of the space of those around them. Voices should be turned off while in the line. Students will follow the teacher to the destination. Class Economics

Homework Policy
The purpose of homework is to allow students to practice, prepare, extend knowledge, and create new products. However, homework has grown in access, thus this class has limited homework policy. This does not mean that you will have no homework. However, I do not believe that homework should be assigned without a need. Students are expected to do the following the night before every class.
1. Do your math problems.
2. Read for 20 minutes. You can read whatever you want. Just read!
3. Complete any work that you did not finish during class time. If you did not finish in class I will check for it the following morning.
4. Review material for any upcoming tests or quizzes.
5. Make-up work
Make-up Work:
If you miss class, make sure to check your assignment slot. I will put any work your missed inside. You may work on your make-up work if you have extra time in class. Any remaining work will need to be done for homework. If you miss a test or quiz I will find a time for you to take it during the school day.
